French Art Deco 18K Gold & Silver Sapphire & Diamond Floral Compact By Ostertag

Offering this splendid rare antique gem-set silver and gold floral compact by Ostertag. The Art Deco compact case was designed by the Swiss jeweler, Melchior Siegfried Arnold Ostertag (1883-1940). It measures 2 3/4 inches in diameter and 1/2 of an inch deep. It is crafted in sterling silver with a bright polished, reeded design. Set across the center of the case are two,18 karat yellow gold bars centering a panel of delicate gold flowers, decorated with thirteen, bezel set round blue sapphire cabochon and three, bezel set single cut diamonds. There are two, 7mm sapphire cabochon on each side of the compact. The front, right cabochon serves as a mechanical push button latch that when depressed opens the compact to reveal a mirror. The compact is signed, “Ostertag, Paris, France” with French hallmarks. This is such an elegant case. A real treasure and in great condition for its age and use.

Compact is presented in very good overall condition. Case shows some scratches and micro dings with normal wear for age. Metal content was tested with a Niton DXL spectral XRF analyzer.
